does it contain illustrated instruction on the backing and binding to finish a rug.

There's a chapter designated to finishing your hook rug but I am not sure on how detailed it is? I found it on Amazon.com and if you click on the picture of the book, you can go through the Chapters to see what the book entails. I would just give that a look and see if this book is something that would work for you :)
