Yarn
I have only done kits so far, and I purchased a pattern with no kit that I would like to try. The pattern gave me color numbers for Mary Maxim yarn, which has been fine and I found it, but I was wondering if there was a cheaper way to get yarn colors like black that I don't need to worry about matching? I noticed the Mary Maxim yarn is 100% acrylic. In that case, can I just buy a skein of, for example, Red Heart yarn and use it for latch hooks? Would there be a difference? I guess that's my main question: What is the difference in latch hook yarn that comes in the kits and going out and buying the common yarn in the craft stores? Thanks to anyone who can help clear this up for me.

I have purchased the precut acrylic yarn and also buy skeins of yarn which I can always find on sale. I have found the skeins are better quality, in my opinion-but I then have to cut them myself. My cutting my own latch hook yarn allows me to cut my yarn a bit longer which works better for my custome rugs. It's also nice to have left over yarn for another rug. Keep Hooking!
